Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Jalna district collector Ashima Mittal has ordered all country liquor and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) outlets within the Gondi police station limits to remain shut on Sept 9 and 10, citing the ongoing Maratha reservation agitation at Antarwali Sarati and the possibility of large crowds gathering in the area. The order, issued under section 142(1) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, declares both days as dry days and directs licence holders to suspend all liquor sales and related transactions for the entire day. Earlier, Mittal had ordered a ban on wholesale liquor sales from Sept 5 to 8 as a precautionary measure.

Confirming the decision, Mittal said, “The decision has been taken to avoid any untoward incident getting triggered by inebriated men at a time when an agitation is underway at village Antarwali Sarati. Continued operation of liquor outlets amid the expected increase in footfall could lead to untoward incidents, violence and a disturbance of public peace, according to the order. This is the second such restriction imposed in connection with the agitation. The latest order extends restrictions to all liquor-related transactions and retail saleson both days.
