Dhantoli traffic mess: Court summons DCP
Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed DCP (Traffic) to personally appear before it on Sept 1 over continuing traffic congestion and parking problems in Dhantoli. The petitioners’ counsel, Ashutosh Dharmadhikari and Ashwin Deshpande, said the ground situation had remained unchanged despite several HC directions since 2012. In a December 2025 affidavit, traffic police said no-parking zones and a one-way system had been introduced at several locations. The court also directed NMC and traffic police to jointly inspect these spots on Aug 31.
A division bench of Justices Urmila Joshi-Phalke and Raj Wakode also directed traffic police to submit a detailed report on measures taken to address the problems in the busy residential and medical hub. The directions came while hearing two PILs filed by Dhantoli Nagrik Mandal, raising concerns over traffic congestion, inadequate parking and alleged commercial use of parking spaces by hospitals. The court sought greater accountability from traffic authorities. The petitioners disputed this, following which the court appointed a one-member committee headed by advocate JB Gandhi to assess the situation. An NMC assistant commissioner and traffic officials will conduct the inspection and submit a report on the prevailing situation. Traffic police must submit a detailed action-taken report.
