Gangapur complex is holding 10 TMC of water
Nashik: The combined water storage in medium and major dams across the Nashik region — comprising Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar districts — stood at 118 TMC, or 90% of the total designed capacity of 130 TMC, as of Oct 2, according to water resources department (WRD) data. “The kharif crop is lost and the govt has announced drought.
“Ahilyanagar holds 34 TMC (81%) against 100% last year, while Jalgaon holds 15 TMC (86%) compared to 95%,” a senior WRD official said. Farmers are eyeing rabi crops, hoping for enough water allocation to earn a living,” Ramesh Dusing, a Niphad farmer, said. Farmer Kailas Ghuge said: “Held around Oct 15, the meeting decides agricultural water reservation based on dam levels and groundwater, with priority given to drinking water.”
However, persistent dry spells during critical growth stages caused severe damage to kharif crops like soybean, cotton, maize, pulses, paddy, and onion, leaving them wilted or diseased. Water allocation is determined at the district canal advisory committee meeting, chaired by the district guardian minister.
