During a Kumbh Mela review meeting in Mumbai in Feb 2025, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had directed the NMC to prepare a DPR for underground drainage infrastructure in MIDC areas falling within the municipal limits. “Industries have been demanding an underground drainage network in both MIDC areas for the last 12 to 15 years.
The MIDC has identified two plots of two acres each for the proposed STP and SPS, according to civic officials. Dharankar said the revised DPR would be submitted to MJP next week for technical clearance. “The project cost has been reduced from the earlier estimate of Rs290 crore to Rs250 crore following MJP’s suggestions,” he said. This is a positive step towards addressing a long-pending infrastructure requirement,” he said.
The civic body is set to submit the revised proposal to the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) for technical approval next week. The DPR, revised in line with MJP’s recommendations, proposes laying of nearly 84km of underground drainage lines across the two industrial zones under the civic body’s jurisdiction. The plots are expected to be transferred to the NMC shortly. The project will be funded through a World Bank loan, with the state govt acting as guarantor. Ashish Nahar, president of the Nashik Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA), welcomed the development.
