Father demands arrests in IIT-Bombay student suicide — 'Will take: The wider industry impact

The father of a deceased IIT-Bombay student intends to protest with his son’s body, demanding accountability

The student’s father, Ravindra Wakode, a bank employee, said that he will be taking the body to the campus and will not leave till officials responsible for his death are arrested. Police said the FIR was lodged against multiple people allegedly responsible for the suicide, while the family has named a few people. Students alleged that he was threatened with suspension following the incident.

MUMBAI: The father of an IIT-Bombay student who died by suicide has said he will take his son’s body to the campus and refuse to leave until those responsible for his death are arrested, as protests continued at the institute on Saturday. The student’s parents, who are from Yavatmal, reached the IIT-Bombay campus on Saturday, a day after their second-year son died by suicide. Powai Police registered a case of abetment of suicide on Saturday in connection with the student’s death. Fresh protests were also held on the IIT-Bombay campus on Saturday morning, with several students continuing their demonstration through the night following the student’s death. The student had been caught with a mobile phone during his exam on Friday.
