Nearly 90,000 employees work across the five campuses identified for the project, official said. The two approved projects will connect offices in Hinjewadi Phase 2 with the MIDC Circle, Hinjewadi Circle 1 and Hinjewadi Circle 2 Metro stations. Together, these campuses employ around 55,000 people. The authorities have also approached three other firms to develop similar bridges linked to stations in Maan, Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Hinjewadi and Hinjewadi Circle 1. These campuses collectively employ another 32,000 people.
“One technology firm and another developer-operated business park have conveyed their willingness to construct the bridges and approvals have already been issued,” RG Totla, executive engineer, MIDC, told TOI . The initiative is intended to reduce pedestrian movement on roads, streamline traffic flow and lower the risk of accidents in the bustling IT hub, according to Totla. “It is a joint effort by both entities to develop corporate FOBs,” a PITCMRL official said. “Talks are under way and we expect a positive response,” Totla said. Direct pedestrian bridges connecting offices to Metro stations will make commuting much easier and safer,” Hinjewadi resident Sameer Kulkarni said. Aditi Deshpande, who commutes from Warje to Hinjewadi several times a week, said direct access to Metro stations would offer relief amid persistent traffic bottlenecks. The move is aimed at improving pedestrian safety and easing traffic congestion by preventing thousands of employees from crossing busy roads during peak office hours. Under the proposal, MIDC will provide the land required for bridge pillars, while the firms will bear the construction cost.
