Calling the effort to preserve the city’s traditions and culture “commendable”, Fadnavis distributed prizes to selected children as a large number of residents gathered for the programme. One of the biggest attractions of the festival is the grand wooden Nandi at Senior Bhonsle Palace in Mahal, measuring around eight feet in height and six feet in length. A giant Tanha Pola procession is also held annually from the RSS headquarters in Mahal, locally known as the Mohite Shakha Tanha Pola Utsav. At several places, competitions and programmes were organised for children, with prizes for creatively decorated wooden bulls as well as fancy-dress competitions. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis also joined the celebrations at Hawrapeth, where the festival was organised by Shri Ganpati-Hanuman Mandir Committee and Mitra Parivar. Download the TOI App.
