She said the sanction would accelerate industrial and economic development while improving connectivity for people across the region. The approval follows sustained efforts by Chandrapur MP Pratibha Dhanorkar, who had been pursuing the project with railway authorities.
Chandrapur : Indian Railways has approved Rs 493 crore for construction of a 38.21-km new railway line between Gadchandur in Chandrapur and Mukutban in Yavatmal, a move expected to give a major boost to industrial growth and public transport in the region. The line is expected to handle around 6.08 million tonnes of freight annually, including coal, cement, sponge iron, iron, fertilisers and foodgrains, according to the project assessment. The new line will provide a direct and shorter rail link for the cement and mining belt, reducing transportation time and costs. It will also offer an alternative route to Wardha-Manikgarh section and ease pressure on busy Ballarpur-Nagpur rail corridor. Better connectivity is also likely to encourage fresh industrial activity and support the expansion of existing industries in the Gadchandur-Mukutban belt. The railway line will also have an important public transport benefit. Once completed, passenger train services are expected to connect Gadchandur, Mukutban and surrounding rural areas, providing residents with a faster, safer and more affordable travel option.
