Kolhapur : From Goa Liberation and preserving Marathi to a Jyotiba procession and a message against violence against doctors, Kolhapur’s streets will turn into a moving canvas of history, faith and social causes during Friday’s Ganesh immersion procession.
Security will be tight, with more than 1,500 police personnel deployed along the route.
Unauthorised drones will be disabled,” superintendent of police Nilotpal said. “Barricades, watchtowers and lights have been installed wherever required on police advice,” KMC commissioner Dr Rajendra Bharud said. He said barricades and warning signs have also been placed around six dilapidated buildings, including five on Mahadwar Road and one at Gangavesh. “Citizens have been advised not to take shelter beneath these buildings,” he said.
Police have also brought in specialised anti-drone equipment. Drone flights will be prohibited. Police have already conducted an armed march along the immersion route. Seven joint police-RTO teams have been deployed from Thursday night to inspect trolleys, laser lights and CO2 canisters. Nilotpal has directed police inspectors to register cases and take action against mandals that violate restrictions. All idols from the city will be immersed at Irani quarry.
The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation has completed arrangements there, while the road to Panchaganga river will remain closed to mandals on Friday.
