Vadhvan Port project is a deep-water seaport project being implemented by Vadhvan Port Project Limited, a joint venture between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (74%) and Maharashtra Maritime Board (26%). The project cost is estimated at Rs 76,220 crore. When commissioned, the port will have the capacity to handle 298 million metric tonnes of cargo and two crore 32 lakh containers annually and will become one of the largest container ports in the world. A 104-km greenfield expressway will connect the port to Samruddhi Expressway and a rail freight corridor which, in turn, will connect to dry inland ports.

Mumbai: Aseem Kumar Gupta, additional chief secretary in urban development department (UDD), has been appointed ‘Mission Director’ to oversee development works at Vadhvan Port and Vadhvan Influence Area under Mumbai Growth Hub initiative. Gupta also holds additional charge of state housing department. Palghar district, a tribal area with integrated port-led economic growth, is being developed by the Mahayuti govt as Fourth Mumbai. The plan is to develop the district as an integrated industrial and economic hub, which includes logistics, manufacturing centres, new cities, a proposed airport, the Boisar bullet train influence area and tourist destinations. Terming it a port-led economic development, the growth hub will be developed around Vadhvan Port. MMR growth hub plan is an initiative of NITI Aayog . The GR states that under MMR Economic Master Plan, Vadhvan Port and Vadhvan Influence Area are being developed as an integrated port-led economic growth hub. The govt resolution (GR) issued by state planning department on Wednesday stated that to oversee the rapid implementation of recommendations that will boost the state’s economic development, to attract and retain foreign investment, and to boost startups and employment potential, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Economic Master Plan – Growth Hub has been prepared.
