The boy’s father (48) lodged a complaint against the dog owner with Hadapsar police on Wednesday afternoon. Hadapsar police senior inspector Hemant Patil said, “The complainant’s 11-year-old son was riding his bicycle towards the garden located behind the society building. Police have registered a case against the dog’s owner for failing to keep the animal securely restrained. When he heard a dog barking from the basement of the society, he stopped to one side along with his bicycle. At that moment, the pitbull suddenly lunged at him and bit him on the right side of his chest. The boy’s chest was severely injured in the attack. He was taken to a private hospital for treatment, and later he was discharged.”

Patil added, “The dog owner, a woman, failed to keep her pet securely and the dog was unleashed. She failed to take due precautions to ensure it did not pose a threat to the other residents. The woman has the necessary permissions from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to have the pet dog. We have served her a notice asking her to cooperate with the investigation.”
