Mumbai: A Bombay High Court single-judge bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar rejected an anticipatory bail application of a person accused of demanding Rs 20 crore in extortion amount from a company involved in construction activity. But SV Walve, a prosecutor, and Mubin Solkar, counsel for the first informant, argued that the complaints lodged by the accused were false and that a huge demand was allegedly made for their withdrawal, including Rs 18 crore from the company and Rs 2 crore from the original. The crime was registered by Revdanda police station in Raigad. The accused, through his counsel Dinesh Adsule, submitted that a false FIR was lodged since he had filed various complaints with authorities over the sale of allegedly agricultural and forest land. The additional public prosecutor tendered the transcript of a video to back his submission to deny relief to the accused.
The HC dismissed the pre-arrest bail plea, observing, “transcript…, prima facie, supports the prosecution case where there is a demand of Rs.20 crore inter alia for withdrawal of PIL. Threats are also given of assault if the said payment is not made. In fact, the allegations are also made against the Judges. The offence is very serious. Thus, this is a case where custodial interrogation is absolutely essential. Download the TOI App.
