He demanded comprehensive relief of Rs 1 lakh per hectare and a complete loan waiver for farmers. Mumbai: Congress state unit president Harshwardhan Sapkal said while on a visit to drought-affected parts of Washim district on Thursday that the failure of the rains coupled with rising temperatures had devastated the kharif season.
At a time of soaring inflation, how can farmers celebrate Diwali with just Rs 5,000?
Sapkal said. His party colleague Vijay Wadettiwar said, “Agriculture has been devastated by a prolonged dry spell. “While farmers had hoped that the government would come to their rescue, it has failed to provide them with meaningful relief. Yet, five talukas in Gadchiroli district have been excluded from the list of drought-affected areas. We demand that the govt must immediately include these areas along with eligible affected talukas in Chandrapur district in the list of drought-affected areas.”
