The seized stock sweets that arrived from Gujarat
In the first raid, FDA seized 720kg of sweets worth Rs 1.24 lakh from a vendor. In the second action, officials seized 401kg of sweets worth Rs 68,170 from a trading firm.
FDA officials said the stock had been transported from Gujarat through private travel operators without the required licence and in violation of temperature-control norms. “The sweets were found stored on the ground in unhygienic conditions in a parking area in front of a hotel and were suspected to be substandard,” FDA joint commissioner Shrikant Karkale said. Karkale said samples of the seized sweets had been sent for laboratory analysis. “The perishable stock has been shifted to a cold storage facility in Bidkin pending further orders,” he said.
The consignment was intended for Jalna and Parbhani and included 214kg of halwa. The stock, meant for sale in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, included 133kg of halwa.
