Powai received 59.4mm, Juhu 55.4mm, Andheri East 50.2mm and Versova 45.4mm. Dharavi recorded 14mm of rainfall, while other city locations received 8.8mm to 10.8mm during the two-hour period. Neighbouring areas of Thane also witnessed rain activity. Aarey Colony in Goregaon recorded the highest rainfall of 64mm between 6pm and 8pm.
Mumbai: Sudden showers lashed several parts of the city, including Mulund, Kurla, and Andheri, on Tuesday evening, offering brief relief after a hot and humid day, but causing waterlogging and temporary closure of Andheri subway.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a nowcast for Mumbai at 7pm, valid for 3 hours, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, light rain and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places. The rain activity followed a warm day with maximum temperatures at IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatories hovering around 32-33°C. Minimums were around 25°C. Mumbai’s normal monsoon withdrawal date is around Oct 8.

Weather experts said the showers were typical of the transition period during the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, when isolated evening thunderstorms and rain spells can occur. IMD has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers through the week. Download the TOI App.
