Nagpur: Congress on Thursday alleged discrepancies in the electoral roll for Nagpur division graduates’ constituency, claiming that more than 22,000 voters were linked to a single mobile number and 8,744 duplicate entries had been identified.
Londhe alleged that a mobile number 5432154321 was linked to around 22,000 voters. Londhe claimed that Congress has received support from 48 organisations, including Vidarbha Madhyamik Shaikshanik Sanghatna and an Urdu-medium schools’ association, in the Graduates’ Constituency election.
Addressing the media here, the party’s chief spokesperson Atul Londhe said the party approached divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari and submitted complaints to State Election Commission and Election Commission of India , seeking deletion of duplicate entries and corrective action. “Congress also identified 8,744 names appearing more than once in the electoral roll and urged the concerned voters to exercise their franchise at only one polling station,” Londhe said and alleged that the EC was favouring BJP . The spokesperson told the media that Congress emailed details of the alleged duplicate entries to the election authorities, including chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and chief electoral officer S Chockalingam. No one should be under the impression that they can vote twice,” Londhe said. “Congress wants to ensure free and fair polls,” he said.
“We have sought an end to the practice. He also alleged that constitutional institutions, including EC, were functioning under pressure and demanded impartial conduct of the elections.
