Marine Drive police have filed a case against several unidentified drivers.
MUMBAI: Marine Drive police have registered a case against the unidentified drivers of six to seven high-end cars for allegedly racing and overspeeding inside the Coastal Road tunnel on the night of September 3. The incident took place around 11.15pm in the southbound tunnel near Marine Drive. Police constable Nivrutti Sangle, 42, lodged a complaint on behalf of the state, following which an FIR was registered against the unidentified drivers.
Police said the vehicles were allegedly being driven at excessive speeds and in a manner that endangered the lives and safety of other people using the tunnel. The vehicles involved have been identified and are likely to be taken into custody, police said. A motorist travelling through the tunnel recorded a video showing several luxury and high-performance cars allegedly speeding together, flouting traffic discipline and endangering other motorists. Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from inside the Coastal Road tunnel and surrounding areas to gather further evidence and establish the identities of the drivers.
