NMC’s standing committee meeting
The demand surfaced during discussions on a proposal to deposit Rs 8 crore, constituting 30% of the estimated compensation, with the district land acquisition department for a 30-metre-wide DP road at Nandur Naka in Panchavati. Nashik: Members of the Nashik Municipal Corporation’s standing committee on Thursday told the civic administration to prepare a priority list of land acquisition proposals for development plan (DP) amenities and explore compensating landowners through transferable development rights (TDR) instead of cash payouts.
Concerns Raised Over Land Acquisition Proposals by NMC
Members of the committee have expressed strong objections to recent land acquisition proposals presented by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). They highlighted that compensation for land acquired during the Kumbh Mela projects in 2003 and 2015 remains unpaid.
Critics allege that the proposals favor select landowners and lack a comprehensive prioritization policy for the city. Senior corporator Rahul Dive called for the NMC to address these outstanding dues before pursuing new acquisitions. He proposed that the corporation offer Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) to affected landowners, arguing that this would alleviate financial pressures on the NMC while ensuring fair compensation.
Land Acquisition Proposal Deferred; Dog Sterilisation Centre Approved for Relocation
The standing committee, led by chairperson Machhindra Sanap, has deferred a proposal regarding land acquisition following objections raised during the meeting. Officials have been directed to compile comprehensive details on all pending and proposed land acquisition cases for discussion at the next meeting.
In a separate decision, the committee has approved the relocation of the dog sterilisation centre from Vilholi Naka. The existing facility has become non-operational due to ongoing water supply works. Officials emphasized the need to resume operations promptly in order to comply with Supreme Court directives.
