The families of the workers who lost their lives in the Bhakti Park accident will receive a total of over Rs 84 lakh in financial assistance. This support aims to provide some relief to the grieving families following the tragic incident.
MUMBAI: Families of the two workers killed in the Bhakti Park accident will receive Rs 41.10 lakh and Rs 43.10 lakh respectively in financial assistance and compensation, taking the combined amount to Rs 84.20 lakh. The incident occurred around 7.30pm on September 12 when two workers descending from the first floor to the ground floor reportedly fell after an iron staging gave way. The workers were identified as Nadheej, 33, and Saqim, 37, according to the FIR registered at Wadala TT police station.
They were taken to Sion Hospital, where one was declared dead before admission and the other died during treatment.
Each family will receive Rs 26 lakh in direct financial assistance from the MMRDA. This comprises Rs 1 lakh towards immediate funeral expenses, Rs 10 lakh paid to the wife of the deceased and another Rs 15 lakh for which cheques have been prepared. In addition, the family of the 37-year-old worker is expected to receive around Rs 15.10 lakh as statutory compensation, taking its total assistance and compensation to Rs 41.10 lakh. The family of the 35-year-old worker is expected to receive around Rs 17.10 lakh, taking its total to Rs 43.10 lakh. The additional Rs 15 lakh cheques will be handed over after the MMRDA receives the necessary details of the deceased workers’ children.
The agency will also provide the families with legal assistance to facilitate their claims for statutory compensation under applicable Labour Department provisions.
Police Investigate Subcontractor for Worker Safety Negligence
The police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against subcontractor Tariq-ul-Islam, citing allegations of negligence and insufficient attention to worker safety. The case has been registered under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to the responsibilities of individuals in ensuring safety standards. An investigation is currently underway to assess the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
