Mumbai: A father-son duo has been arrested by Cyber Police in connection with a scam where a businessman was duped of Rs 26 lakh by threatening him over his purported links with Pulwama attackers. He said that he had mortgaged all his gold and could transfer Rs 26 lakh.
An “inquiry” began over a video call and the complainant provided information about his assets, bank accounts and gold. But the fraudster warned him that he would be booked and arrested. The complainant was asked to melt his gold and transfer the money into the fraudster’s bank account. He was assured that the money would be returned to him post-inquiry. But he did not hear from the fraudsters again. Cyber Police registered an FIR and arrested a father-son duo linked to the beneficiary bank account.
