Mentioning the PIL for urgent hearing before a bench of Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna on Friday, senior counsel Anil Sakhare said it was filed in larger public interest for “effective, meaningful and time-bound implementation and enforcement of an earlier judgment”. Mumbai: A fresh public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court to highlight non-implementation of noise pollution norms and high-decibel DJ systems in Pune during festive seasons. The authorities fail to effectively monitor ambient noise levels or deploy calibrated sound-level meters, flouting past court judgments, Sakhare submitted. An activist was recently publicly assaulted in Pune after objecting to high-decibel DJ systems ahead of Ganeshotsav, the PIL petitioner cited as a reason for an urgent hearing, stating that unless the issue of loudspeakers is resolved, it may lead to law-and-order situations.
