Mumbai: A student of a prestigious management institute has lodged a police complaint against a man who claimed he was the college counsellor and duped the student of Rs 24.6 lakh.
Police said the accused had warned the student that he would be debarred for copying during online exams, though he hadn’t, and offered to sort out the matter for money. Bangur Nagar police registered an FIR and are probing further.
The student transferred him Rs 24.6 lakh in installments. But Alok refunded him only Rs 1.15 lakh. When the student passed the exam but Alok continued to demand money, the student realized he had been taken for a ride. He then confided in his parents and they lodged a complaint at the Bangur Nagar police station.
Details of the Complainant in MBA Admission Case
The complainant, a 21-year-old builder’s son, resides in Malad with his family. In January 2026, he enrolled in an MBA (finance) program through the institute’s distance and online learning initiative. He paid an annual fee of Rs 1.12 lakh and received a designated seat number from the institute.
