Mumbai: On Wednesday, FDA said it has suspended the licences of 18 sweet manufacturers, sellers, home-based food units (gruh udyog), and similar businesses across the state. In Dahisar (E), boondi and sweet halwa worth Rs 1.45 lakh (214 kg) were seized on suspicion of adulteration. In a press statement, FDA said all were found to be manufacturing food under unhygienic conditions. It has also suspended the licence of Bhagwati Stores in Borivali due to an infestation of cockroaches, flies, and other insects, as well as rotten food articles, improper storage, and a defective freezer. Across the state, the seized stock comprises about 14,340.78 kg of food articles and 204 litres of kokum, with a total value of Rs 37.49 lakh.
