Load fluctuation damages appliances in Jaripatka
Nagpur: A majority of North Nagpur areas grappled with power failures over the weekend, with Mecosabagh residents forced to sweat through a nearly 10-hour phase outage through Sunday night. Residents of Mecosabagh Christian Colony said the power supply to one of the phases was disrupted through the night and there was no resolution despite filing an online complaint around 12.30am.
Rajiv Issacs, a local resident, said, “The lineman never receives the complaint directly on the app. Voltage fluctuations in neighbouring Jaripatka damaged costly appliances in many homes. In case a complaint is lodged post-midnight via the app, it goes into limbo till the morning guy takes over.”
As per the residents, the linemen told them that the power supply was disrupted due to a fault in one of the transformers in the area. “The Mahavitran app clearly says that the complaint has been assigned to someone, though in reality it has not reached the linemen,” the resident said, suggesting the messages on the app go to some official in Nagpur who then manually sends them to linemen according to jurisdiction. This means their app is a failure,” said the resident. A resident questioned the delayed response. “What was this official doing in the night? They alleged MSEDCL officials had been informed about the recurring fluctuation problem many times, but no timely remedial action has been taken. Former corporator and Nationalist Congress Party state vice-president and spokesperson Vedprakash Arya demanded a probe into the Jaripatka incident and sought action against officials found responsible. Arya also demanded immediate compensation for affected consumers. He warned of a stir against Mahavitaran if the utility failed to act. Residents in both areas questioned who would compensate them for the disruption and the damage to their household appliances. It was resolved later. Download the TOI App.
When residents questioned the linemen who arrived at the spot on Monday morning, they showed a WhatsApp group on which the complaint was assigned to them only at 9am. In Jaripatka, residents said a sudden surge and drop in voltage on Saturday rendered several household appliances, including TVs, refrigerators, air-conditioners, Wi-Fi adapters and lights unusable. Meanwhile, a technical issue led to a nearly two-and-a-half-hour power outage near Chinchbhuvan on Monday morning.
