The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Nagpur: An 80-metre road connecting Forest Office Square towards RBI Square is proposed to be closed to facilitate the expansion of Vidhan Bhavan.

The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) has said the closure will not significantly affect traffic movement as alternative routes have been identified for motorists.

The 80-metre portion is located alongside the triangular plot belonging to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and is required for the construction-related work.

Vehicles approaching from Zero Mile and travelling towards BSNL will be able to use the road in front of the Govt Press gate, according to MSIDC. Traffic between Zero Mile and Forest Office Square will continue as usual, while other roads in the area will remain open. They can then proceed via the road in front of the Govt Library towards Constitution Square and RBI. Similarly, vehicles travelling from the school towards RBI will be able to take the Zero Mile-School-RBI Square route. The road closure has been proposed in connection with the ongoing expansion of the Vidhan Bhavan complex. The agency has also stated that arrangements are being made to ensure smooth traffic movement during the construction period and minimise inconvenience to citizens. The proposal comes as construction activity for the expansion of Vidhan Bhavan gathers pace. With the road forming part of the area required for the project, authorities are looking to divert traffic through existing road links rather than allow vehicles to pass through the construction zone.
