Nagpur: District and sessions judge KH Thombre on Monday convicted a Bangladeshi couple for illegally residing in India and sentenced them to the period the husband and wife have already spent in jail.
Couple Sentenced for Illegal Residence and Fined
A court has sentenced a couple to imprisonment for their involvement in illegal residence linked to a flesh trade operation. The woman received a sentence of 2 years, 5 months, and 10 days, while her husband was sentenced to 2 years, 5 months, and 8 days. Both were fined Rs10,000 each, with a provision for 15 days of simple imprisonment if the fines are not paid. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Following the completion of their sentences and payment of the fines, prison authorities have been instructed to deport the couple to Bangladesh.
This case arose from a raid conducted by the detection branch on April 13, 2024, at a lodge located on the Itgaon Phata–Khaparkheda–Parseoni road, under the jurisdiction of the Parseoni police station. The raid was initiated based on a tip-off regarding suspected flesh trade activities.
Public prosecutor Ram Anwane presented evidence from eight witnesses during the trial. While the court confirmed the illegal residence, it acquitted the couple of charges related to forgery.
