Nagpur : Wathoda police and the crime branch intensified their search on Sunday for Pushpam Bhandarkar, also known as Pushpam Bhandane, who is wanted in an ₹85 lakh counterfeit currency case.
Police seized counterfeit ₹500 notes worth around ₹37 lakh and another ₹48 lakh worth of partially printed notes with blank reverse sides.
The recovery of a printer and photocopier also suggested the rented premises was being used to produce fake currency, investigators said. Investigators said his mother is a homemaker, while his younger brother works as a delivery agent. Despite forming multiple teams and scrutinising mobile phone records, investigators have been unable to trace the suspect. Police teams are analysing his call detail records to identify close associates and trace his movements. Several frequent callers are reportedly under the scanner, while available mobile phone location records are also being examined to establish his whereabouts. Police are probing the source of the materials, the method used to prepare the notes and whether any counterfeit currency has already been circulated.
