Nashik: A 17-year-old boy was discovered hanging at his home on Friday afternoon, just hours after his sister celebrated Rakshabandhan by tying him a rakhi. This incident marks a tragic end to a day traditionally centered around the bond between siblings.
The teenager accompanied his father to his aunt’s place, but within 10 minutes, said he would return home. However, before taking the extreme step, he updated his social media status with a message addressed to his sister, asking her to take care of herself and their parents, police said.
Police said the youth was found dead at his house in the Shanipeth police station limits between noon and 2pm. The family had spent the morning celebrating Rakshabandhan together, according to police. Inspector Vishal Jaiswal, of the Shanipeth police station, said, “The boy left no suicide note behind. “We are investigating that specific angle among other possibilities,” Jaiswal said, adding that the exact reason behind the incident remains unclear.
The teenager left behind no suicide note. After the festivities, the boy’s mother and sister left for his maternal uncle’s house, while his father went to visit his sister. The message has since become a key focus of the investigation as police try to determine what drove the teenager to take the extreme step. Police are also looking into reports that the teenager may have been addicted to online gaming and had suffered monetary losses.
