Nashik : A 19-year-old woman has accused her parents and relatives of abducting, assaulting and confining her for over a month to force her to end her intercaste marriage and marry a man from their community. She escaped from her maternal uncle’s house in Nagpur on Sept 28 and returned to her husband in Nashik. The woman had entered into a registered marriage with a man working at an industrial unit in Nashik in April 2026.
Her parents opposed the marriage over caste differences, she told police.
Her parents, two uncles and an aunt visited her husband’s home on Aug 11, according to her complaint. After more than a month in alleged confinement, she escaped around 3.30am on Sept 28 while her family members were asleep. “On the woman’s complaint, we have registered a case of kidnapping, wrongful confinement and causing hurt against her parents, two uncles and an aunt under relevant sections of the BNS,” Adgaon senior inspector Pravin Chavan said. The next day, they persuaded the couple to accompany them in a car on the pretext of visiting her hospitalised father-in-law. The relatives allegedly drove towards Dhule, claiming they wanted to arrange a formal wedding ceremony for the couple. They dropped her husband at Shinde toll plaza, asking him to bring his relatives to Dhule. The woman alleged that she was instead taken to her maternal uncle’s house in Nagpur and confined there. She accused her parents and relatives of assaulting her and pressuring her to marry a man from their community. She returned to Nashik, reunited with her husband and approached police.
