Nashik : An eight-month-old girl, who was reported kidnapped from a village in Nandgaon, was found abandoned in Vaibothi village in Yeola taluka early on Sunday morning.
Nandgaon police are investigating the case to determine who picked up the girl from her house and left her about 50 km away in the neighbouring taluka. Someone picked her up from between her sleeping parents on Thursday, between 8.30pm and 11.30pm. The police stated that the sniffer dog led the investigators directly to the home of a 60-year-old priest, located around 200 feet away.
Soon after the incident was reported, Nandgaon police rushed to the scene and deployed a sniffer dog to trace the suspect. Senior police officers confirmed that investigation remains ongoing to establish the identity of the perpetrator and the motive behind the abduction. Nashik Rural SP D S Swami said authorities are working to identify the suspect responsible for the kidnapping and abandonment, and to establish the motive behind the crime. The infant was discovered after residents along the roadside in Vaibothi heard her crying and alerted the police patil, who in turn informed the police around 5am. She was found safe and unhurt, and has since been handed over to her parents. Authorities called the priest in for questioning and subsequently allowed him to return home. Download the TOI App.
The girl, who is a daughter of a worker, was reported missing on Friday. However, on Saturday, the priest was found hanging from a tree in a nearby jungle. the girl was safely recovered around 5am on Sunday While the search teams fanned out across several locations.
