Nashik : Mhasrul Police in Nashik arrested a 24-year-old serial cybercriminal responsible for operating a job fraud syndicate across India.
The crackdown came after an FIR was registered at Mhasrul police station on Sept 9 under BNS and sections of the Information Technology Act for cheating. The accused had set up fake recruiter profiles on an employment app, using the platform to promise job seekers employment opportunities, and duped a complainant of Rs 6.45 lakh, according to police. Through location tracking, a police team raided his hideout and seized four mobile phones, 13 SIM cards, debit and credit cards from 12 different banks, and two bank chequebooks. The accused was produced before a local court on Saturday and remanded to four days of police custody till Oct 21.
The investigation was led by API Dhiraj Gaware, under the guidance of senior PI Atul Dahake. Police analysed mobile numbers and email addresses used for the crime to nab the suspect. He noted that the financial amounts involved in his other offences were smaller than the Nashik case.
A thorough investigation and cross-referencing of his digital trail with National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) revealed that the accused is linked to 38 cybercrime cases registered across various districts. The accused is Rahul Deepak Dhule, alias Amol Sonawane, a resident of Juveli Village in Badlapur (East), Thane district near Mumbai.
