Preparations are underway at an artificial immersion pond in Nashik ahead of Anant Chaturdashi
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has readied 77 immersion sites, 24 natural spots along Godavari river and its tributaries, and 53 artificial ponds set up across the six municipal divisions. Panchavati division will have the highest number of immersion facilities, with 19 such sites, followed by Nashik Road (13), Cidco (12), Nashik East (12), Satpur (11) and Nashik West (10). To facilitate eco-friendly immersion and streamline waste management, NMC has planned a deployment of around 1,000 volunteers from various NGOs who will be stationed at immersion points. Traditionally, around 90% of these idols are immersed on Anant Chaturdashi, making it the busiest day of the festival. NMC this year granted permission to over 600 Ganesh mandals across the city. Discharge from Gangapur dam, currently 356 cusecs, is expected to be increased on Friday to maintain adequate water flow in Godavari river.

Civic officials said immersion activities will begin at 11am at designated locations across the city. Volunteers will assist devotees, while separate teams have been assigned for the collection of donated idols and nirmalya,” an NMC official said.
