HUGE RUSH ON THIRD SHRAVAN SOMWAR
Residents said the town witnessed a continuous rush of devotees for more than 24 hours. Authorities implemented a stop-and-release system at Kushavarta Kund, allowing batches of 200 to 300 devotees at a time to ensure smooth movement and avoid overcrowding. More than 1,000 police personnel and home guards were deployed for bandobust under the supervision of Nashik Rural superintendent of police, D S Swami.
Police said attendance rose sharply, as many devotees feared they might not get a similar chance next year, due to expected restrictions during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Chants of “Bam Bam Bhole” echoed across Trimbakeshwar, while members of the warkari sect joined the pilgrimage, beating taals during the Brahmagiri parikrama. “By around 1.30pm on Monday, nearly 1.5 lakh devotees had completed the Brahmagiri circumambulation and begun their return journey,” police said. Pilgrims began arriving in the temple town from Sunday afternoon, with the influx continuing till Monday afternoon. Several voluntary groups and devotees set up stalls along the trekking route, distributing fasting food, fruits and khichdi to pilgrims. The massive turnout also served as a crowd-management rehearsal for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Devotees also gathered in large numbers for the darshan of Lord Trimbak’s palanquin when it reached Kushavarta Kund around 3pm, triggering another surge in footfall. Apart from Trimbakeshwar, Shiva temples across Nashik city witnessed heavy footfall throughout the day, as devotees marked the auspicious Shravan Somvar with prayers and rituals. Nashik: Nearly four lakh devotees visited the revered Jyotirlinga shrine at Trimbakeshwar on Monday (third Shravan Somwar), in one of the largest crowds of this Shravan season. The circumambulation of the sacred Brahmagiri mountain saw an unprecedented response, with devotees undertaking the trek from around 8pm on Sunday till 1pm on Monday.
