Nashik: Over four to five lakh devotees are arriving in Trimbakeshwar to offer prayers at the Lord Shiva temple on the third Shravan Somvar.

Trimbakeshwar, one of the country’s 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines, sees a steady flow of pilgrims throughout the year, with footfalls peaking on Mondays during Shravan. To manage the surge, the police have deployed around 1,000 personnel at strategic locations. some complete the arduous 40-km circuit as part of their religious vows While most take the 20-km route.

Superintendent of Police D S Swami said comprehensive security arrangements have been made to ensure smooth movement of devotees and prevent untoward incidents. Officials said the system is being tested as a trial run ahead of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The police are also using an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based crowd analysis system for real-time monitoring. Though the present crowd is smaller than the millions expected during the Kumbh, the exercise will help assess the system’s effectiveness. Traffic diversions are in place to prevent congestion, with private vehicles barred from entering the core town and diverted to Khambale. Devotees have been advised to use public transport. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation ( MSRTC ) and city bus services have deployed additional buses, with many pilgrims arriving since Sunday evening. Besides temple darshan, thousands of devotees undertake the traditional circumambulation of the sacred Brahmagiri mountain.
