Navi Mumbai police destroyed 726 kgs of narcotics valued at Rs 26.30 crore through incineration
NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai Police destroyed 726 kg of narcotics worth Rs 26.30 crore that were seized from arrested drug peddlers and suppliers in 201 cases under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, 1985, registered at various police stations. Accordingly, till date, the city police have destroyed seized narcotics worth a total of Rs 139.74 crore in 393 NDPS Act cases. In the past five years, police have seized 1,078 kg of narcotics worth around Rs 150 crore and arrested 3,200 accused in 2,378 NDPS Act cases, informed senior inspector Sandeep Nigade of the Anti-Narcotics Cell. SI Nigade said, “In June, the Navi Mumbai police destroyed narcotics collectively worth Rs 56.69 crore that was seized in 26 cases registered under NDPS Act. In March, narcotics collectively worth Rs 18.63 crore that was seized in 55 cases was destroyed. While, in Feb last year, we had destroyed Rs 10 crore worth narcotics seized in 40 drugs peddling cases of contrabands including charas, ganja, MD, MDMA and LSD, which were registered under NDPS Act in 2023 and 2024. DCP (Crime) Sachin Gunjal informed, “From 2023 till 2025, a total of 1529 accused African nationals arrested for drugs peddling in the city have been deported and 911 accused African nationals have been blacklisted in the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate for illegally staying and selling narcotics.
” Police commissioner Milind Bharambe said, “To make the anti-drugs operation more effective and faster at the local level, a separate ‘Anti Narcotics Squad’ has been set up at every police station in Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate. Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MOCCA) has been invoked against the accused found repeatedly indulging in drugs trafficking. The contraband was destroyed on Wednesday at the incineration plant of the government-approved Mumbai Waste Management Company in Taloja, following the legal process and obtaining a court order.
