A one-year-old girl tragically lost her life after choking on milk in Chandur village, located in the Hatkanangale taluka of Kolhapur district, late Wednesday night. This incident follows closely on the heels of another choking case in the area, where a one-month-old boy died while breastfeeding on August 13. These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding infant safety during feeding.
Police identified the deceased as Riva Vicky Kamble of Gavbhag in Chandur. A case has been registered at Shivaji Nagar police station based on a complaint filed by her father, Vicky Kamble.
“Riva had developed a fever and was taken to a private hospital on Aug 25, where doctors prescribed medication and sent her home.
Vicky, a construction worker, lives in Chandur with his wife and two daughters, according to police. The following day, her father took her to IGM Hospital for a follow-up examination, where doctors advised the family to continue the prescribed medication,” an officer said. “Family members rushed her to IGM Hospital, where doctors initiated treatment.
On Wednesday evening, while Riva was drinking milk from a small metal pot, she suddenly developed breathing difficulties and her condition deteriorated. Despite efforts to save her, she was declared dead during treatment late on Wednesday night.
Child’s Death Linked to Respiratory Failure and Choking
A child has died due to respiratory failure resulting from milk aspiration and tracheal compression, as confirmed by the death certificate issued by IGM Hospital. The report indicates that choking was the immediate cause of death.
