All India Majlis-E-Itthehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Wednesday appeared suo motu before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Ardhapur
The case was registered at Ardhapur police station on April 15, 2013, under sections 295A and 298 of the IPC. The Hyderabad magistrate directed registration of a case under section 156(3) of the CrPC. Nanded police investigated the case and filed a chargesheet on March 15, 2021. The Ardhapur magistrate issued process against Owaisi in Nov 2021, following which he approached the high court.
It pertains to alleged remarks against Lord Ram during a political programme in Ardhapur. Police initially registered it at Mangalghat police station in Hyderabad. It was later transferred to Ardhapur police station in Nanded district .
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Wednesday appeared suo motu before a court in Ardhapur in connection with a 2013 case over alleged provocative remarks and hurting religious sentiments.
Owaisi’s lawyer, Advocate Tahur Khan Pathan, said, “On learning about the proceedings pending before the JMFC Ardhapur, our client suo motu remained present before the court and sought bail, which the court has granted.” The court granted him bail. The development comes a month after Aurangabad bench of Bombay high court refused to quash the criminal proceedings against Owaisi. HC had observed that freedom of speech was not an unfettered right and could not be used as a licence to intentionally hurt religious feelings.
