Bhiwandi : In a case of alleged misuse of police uniform in Bhiwandi, a police constable has been accused of accepting money to help a person evade legal action and subsequently deleting CCTV footage from five hard disks at a police station to destroy evidence against himself.

The footage recorded before 11.08 pm on March 14, 2025, from five hard disks linked to the CCTV system in the senior police inspector’s cabin was allegedly erased to destroy evidence, the complaint stated. Police have invoked Sections 241, 238, 239, 324(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 65 and 66 of the Information Technology Act.

Nagre, who was earlier posted at Bhoiwada police station and is currently attached to the Ulhasnagar control room, allegedly accepted a bribe from Akhtarali Abbasali Momin to help him escape legal action in a case within the Bhoiwada police station limits, according to the complaint. A case has been registered against the police constable, identified as Umesh Chandrabhan Nagre, and an unidentified private CCTV technician. No arrests have been made so far. The complaint further alleged that to prevent evidence of his involvement from emerging, Nagre, with the assistance of a private CCTV technician, deleted footage from five hard disks connected to the CCTV surveillance system at the police station. After the incident came to light, a departmental enquiry was initiated against Nagre, and he was sent to the control room. Based on the departmental enquiry, DCP Dr Pawan Bansod ordered police to take legal action, and based on his order, an FIR was registered on the complaint of Bhoiwada police station senior inspector Vikram Mohite. To make an impartial probe into the case, Bansod also transferred the case to neighbouring Bhiwandi City police station, which is further probing the case.
