MUMBAI: Powai police have registered a burglary case after cash, gold and diamond jewellery, and 20 gold coins worth a total Rs25.9 lakh were stolen from a 17th-floor flat in Hiranandani Gardens without signs of forced entry. The Kansara couple discovered the valuables missing on Sept 15 and lodged a complaint on Tuesday. Because they thought a family member might have taken the valuables and would return them, police said the couple initially waited.
Police said CCTV cameras in the building, which has security guards, were non-functional and the burglar appeared to have known this. They told police she had retained a key to the flat despite repeated requests to return it.
Kansara had bought the coins between 2008 and 2014 using bonuses and savings. She had received the cash from her grandmother after family land in Kachchh was sold on September 13. Current domestic help Babita Yadav, 32, who has worked at the home for six months, accompanied the family to Bhandardara on August 29. They returned on August 30.
