Pune: A 21-year-old man was arrested by Kalewadi police for allegedly thrashing and robbing a Nadhenagar resident of Rs1,500 on Sunday. The 29-year-old complainant lodged a complaint. Police arrested the accused, Aman Shaikh of Tapkir Mala, Kalewadi, under sections 309 ( robbery ) and 308 ( extortion ) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Around 11.30pm on Saturday, the complainant was out for a walk when Shaikh and his three accomplices stopped him. Shaikh allegedly demanded Rs2,000 per month from the complainant to allow the car to be parked in the area. “When the complainant refused to pay, the accused smashed the windscreen of the car with a sharp weapon, claiming he was the ‘Bhai’ of the area and robbed the complainant of Rs1,500.
An officer from Kalewadi police said, “The complainant’s brother-in-law had parked the car near the complainant’s house in Nadhenagar. We have arrested the accused and are looking for his accomplices,” the officer said. The neighbours gathered when the complainant raised an alarm. The accused allegedly threatened them saying they would have to pay him a parking fee as well.
It took place late on Saturday night.
