Pune: A 25-year-old woman died by suicide in her Munjaba Vasti flat in Dhanori after alleged physical and verbal assault by her boyfriend (32) on Sept 22. Vishrantwadi police registered a case of abetment against the boyfriend on Monday on a complaint by her brother.

Police said the deceased woman had been living with her boyfriend for the past two years after she broke away from her marriage. The boyfriend allegedly used to harass and abuse her in an inebriated state, accusing her of infidelity. Police and city fire brigade officials broke into the flat and found her body. She was taken to Sassoon hospital only to be declared dead on arrival. The police complaint states that her boyfriend had sold off all her gold jewellery to buy a two-wheeler for himself.
