Pune: A 65-year-old man and his 60-year-old wife have been arrested by the Warje police for allegedly killing their 30-year-old son. The incident occurred during the night of August 24-25 at their home. The dispute reportedly arose when the son, who was intoxicated, demanded non-vegetarian food for dinner. His parents refused, citing the observance of the month of Shravan, a period traditionally associated with vegetarianism in some communities. The altercation escalated, leading to the son’s death from injuries sustained during the confrontation.
The deceased’s elder brother (34) lodged a complaint with the police. “The couple tried to wake him up around 4am on Aug 25, but he did not respond. However, the complainant had seen him returning home around 8.30pm on Aug 24, following which he approached the police,” he said.
He used to pick fights with his parents daily,” Bolkotgi said. “The elderly couple initially tried to pass off the death as an accident,” he added. The complainant lives nearby, while his sister stays with the family, according to police. They then went to their elder son’s house and told him that the deceased had reached home around 2am in an inebriated condition and was bleeding when he arrived.
