Pune : Aadhaar identification will become mandatory for registration of documents in Maharashtra starting Oct 1. The state revenue department has made identity verification a mandatory prerequisite for 63 types of transactions, including sale, purchase, mortgage, and partition deeds. A gazette notification to this effect has already been issued, and the new requirement will come into force on Oct 1,” he said.
“The decision has been taken on the directives of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to prevent fraud in property transactions. Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday announced that no documents will be registered without valid Aadhaar identification.
Citizens said the move will eliminate the need to bring physical witnesses for the verification process. Bawankule said this system-wide integration will effectively eliminate fraudulent activities involving impersonators and fake witnesses. The registration and stamps department, which functions under the revenue department, handles all official documentation relating to immovable properties. “The menace of using fake witnesses and fictitious parties in fraudulent transactions will now be eliminated. This measure will minimise human intervention in the registration process, prevent scams, and make the entire ecosystem significantly more efficient and transparent,” Bawankule added.
Senior officials from the registration department confirmed that technical frameworks are fully prepared for state-wide rollout. “We have proposed deploying additional verification features, such as iris scanners, to handle situations where fingerprints fail to register properly, alongside dedicated application-based processing,” an official stated.
