Pune: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) announced setting up of 123 college units, with more than 2100 students across Pune colleges getting leadership responsibilities on Sept 9. A total of 2,142 students have been given responsibilities across the 123 units, with at least 10 students assigned responsibilities in each unit. As part of its membership drive for the 2026-27 academic year, ABVP Pune said it has so far enrolled 34,982 students from 61 colleges. The membership includes 23,320 male students and 11,660 female students. The organisation plans to continue the drive and aims to cross 50,000 members.
The units have been announced in engineering, medical, pharmacy, Ayurveda, physiotherapy and other colleges across Pune. The organisation said the college units would serve as a platform for students to participate in campus activities and social initiatives while taking up responsibilities during the academic year. The initiative is expected to give students opportunities to take part in activities related to campus issues, disaster management, crowd management, self-defence and youth programmes. The organisation has also planned youth gatherings for women aged 16 to 30 in six parts of Pune. Under its ‘Mission Sahasi’ initiative, it aims to provide self-defence training to at least 10,000 female students in the city in the coming months. Among the activities planned, ABVP volunteers will participate in crowd-management work during the Ganesh festival under its ‘Police Mitra’ initiative. A disaster management camp is also planned in early October, where students will be trained in handling emergencies and carrying out basic response measures.
