Firing incident
Of the two boys allegedly recruited by Babar and Kamble, police recently arrested Parth Awale (19), a resident of Karvenagar, and also detained a 17-year-old boy. Further, police also arrested Dnyandev Mahadev Shinde (50), a driver from Solapur. All three were allegedly involved in the attempt to kill 42-year-old businessman Suryavanshi near the Baramati airstrip on Oct 18.
Inspector Narayan Pawar of Baramati (rural) police said, “Kamble and Babar, both residents of Baramati, selected two boys to carry out the attack. Despite having police and private bodyguards, the two youngsters managed to reach Suryavanshi and attempted to kill him,” said Pawar. The motive remains under investigation, the officer said, adding that the police are also probing how the attackers tracked Suryavanshi despite last-minute changes to his travel plans.
The two arrested men have been identified as Chaitanya Babar and Swapnil Kamble. The duo visited Pune city and recruited the two youths to execute the plan. Separately, police have also zeroed in on another suspect in the case and are searching for him. “This second individual is suspected to be the mastermind behind the crime. The youths allegedly approached him under the pretext of presenting a bouquet of flowers and opened fire at close range with a gun. Suryavanshi suffered injuries in the attack but is stable now.
“Suryavanshi has been under police protection since Sept last year, with three constables deployed for his security. Pune: Baramati (rural) police on Saturday arrested two more suspects in the attempt-to-murder case involving shipping company owner Rana Suryavanshi.
