Pune: Deccan Gymkhana police on Sunday registered a defamation case against a social media influencer for posting a video allegedly showing him abuse a state cabinet minister.
Corporator Sunil Pande (56), a close associate of the minister and a Bhandarkar Road resident, lodged a complaint against the influencer on Sunday. Senior inspector Runal Mulla of the Deccan Gymkhana police said, “The video does not mention the name of the minister, but it has his photograph. Besides using derogatory words, the influencer claimed in the video that the minister did not have answers to the problems of common people and avoided their questions, according to the FIR. The video was shot at a junction near SNDT College on Karve Road. The influencer, to whom we have served a notice asking him to cooperate with the investigation, abused the minister and used derogatory words against him. The FIR stated that the video had been made to tarnish the minister’s image. Download the TOI App.
Police said the video was uploaded on Thursday and had many views on an online video-sharing platform.
