Pune: More than 6.77 lakh Ganesh idols were immersed, and over 900 tonnes of waste was collected during the 12-day Ganesh festival in the city, according to Pune Municipal Corporation’s solid waste management department. The municipality also collected 7,15,059 kg of nirmalya (floral offerings) using 358 dedicated containers placed at 267 collection points. Across its 15 ward offices, the civic body set up 58 constructed tanks at 38 locations, 812 iron tanks across 305 locations, and 224 idol collection centres, according to PMC data. Additionally, 45 clay collection centres were established to receive eco-friendly clay idols and raw clay. PMC deployed 1,670 vehicles along with a dedicated workforce comprising 16 senior health inspectors, 161 health inspectors, 292 supervisors, and 4,179 permanent sanitation workers to manage logistics and maintain citywide cleanliness.
