Pune Municipal Corporation officials announced a new project aimed at enhancing traffic management on the Chandani Chowk–Bhugaon stretch. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to address congestion and improve the flow of vehicles in this busy area.
The infrastructure package includes funding for a road measuring 2.2 km in length. Civic officials confirmed that approximately 80% of the land required for the project has already been acquired. Officials also noted that the population of Bhugaon, Bhukum, and adjacent areas is projected to reach nearly three lakh in the coming years. A 60-metre-wide road, a flyover, and a grade separator are planned between Chandani Chowk and Bhugaon to ease traffic congestion in these rapidly developing areas.
Factors considered before scrapping the tenders included inflated cost estimates, modified contract terms, and the absence of prerequisite feasibility and soil studies, according to civic officials.
Traffic Relief for Pune Commuters Delayed
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a delay in the major road and flyover project intended to alleviate traffic congestion for commuters traveling to Bhugaon, Pirangut, and nearby areas. The decision to scrap existing tenders was made due to excessively high bids received during the procurement process.
The proposed flyover aims to separate long-distance traffic from local surface traffic, enhancing overall flow. Additionally, an underpass near the college junction is planned to reduce delays at a significant traffic bottleneck. A new bridge over Ram Nadi is also part of the project, designed to accommodate increasing traffic volumes as it crosses the watercourse.
