Pune: State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday arrested the prime suspect of the illicit liquor tragedy that claimed 22 lives in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad in May. The consumption of methanol-laced illicit liquor claimed 22 lives in the Phugewadi-Dapodi area of Pimpri Chinchwad and four in Pune’s Hadapsar area in the last week of May. The CID has so far arrested 15 people in the cases.
Sunil Ramanand, CID chief, told TOI , “Our team has arrested Datta alias Bhau Londhe. The Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune police departments had registered two separate cases, which were later taken over by the state CID for further investigation. He is the prime suspect and had been on the run after the cases were registered. A team of Pune rural police tracked him down and handed over his custody to our team. The agency has already invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (Mcoca) against arrested people as well as those who are yet to be arrested.
