Pune: The city’s flower market is witnessing a sharp fall in price amid excess supply.
Oversupply Drives Down Flower Prices Ahead of Ganapati Festival
The flower market is experiencing a significant oversupply, leading to a sharp decline in prices. Traders are reportedly discarding flowers due to a lack of buyers. Santosh Kumbharkar, head of the APMC flower market, noted, “We have to see how price shapes up during the Ganapati season.”
Market analysts predict that flower prices will not reach last year’s levels during the upcoming Ganapati festival. Last year, chrysanthemums sold for Rs 120-140 per kg, while this year, prices are expected to remain between Rs 70-80 per kg. Similarly, marigold prices are projected to stay below Rs 50 per kg, according to another trader from Market Yard.
